STATEMENT FROM HEAD FOOTBALL COACH CHIP KELLY REGARDING UNIVERSITY OF OREGON FOOTBALL PLAYERS
The following is a statement from University of Oregon head football coach Chip Kelly regarding Oregon football players:
"I am carefully considering the latest news concerning Jeremiah Masoli and LaMichael James, and will make a decision regarding disciplinary action on Friday, March 12."
KXL/95-5 the Game Sports Director Jay Allen says both matters are very "fluid" and the stories could update and change in the next 24/48 hours. After talking to several sources throughout the afternoon and evening, here are Jay's notes and observations:
LaMichael James:
He is expected to plead guilty Friday morning at 8:30am to a lesser charge of harassment...it’s apparently the lowest charge of harassment possible…the domestic violence aspect of the case is being removed…
The other charges against LaMichael will apparently be dropped…
I’m told LaMichael’s status with football team won’t change…he will be disciplined internally…that punishment likely won’t include a suspension…
There is more to this story than may ever become public…
Jeremiah Masoli:
Statement from Chip Kelly tonight…concerned about developments etc.
Chip is expected to announce disciplinary action against Jeremiah Masoli on Friday after Masoli’s court appearance at 1:30pm to enter a plea to the second degree burglary charge…that discipline is expected to be more severe than James’ punishment and will likely include some sort of suspension…it’s unclear how long Masoli will be suspended for…(Spring, a portion of next season, etc.)
